Herman Cueto
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Cueto joined Azenta Life Sciences in October 2023 as Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Cueto is responsible for leading all financial and fiscal management aspects of the company including long-range strategic and financial objectives.
Prior to joining Azenta, Mr. Cueto was Senior Vice President of Finance, overseeing Segments / Regions / BP&A / Operations at BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company, NYSE: BDX). He formerly served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of BD’s Medical Segment, BD’s largest operating unit, as well as overseeing finance’s functional responsibility for Operations and Global Supply Chain. Mr. Cueto joined BD in 2017 through its acquisition of CR Bard. Prior, Mr. Cueto was at CR bard for fourteen years, most recently as Vice President and Group CFO.
Mr. Cueto holds an MBA from Seton Hall University and earned his Bachelor of Science and master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Mr. Cueto is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of New Jersey.
Jason W. Joseph
Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary
Mr. Joseph joined Azenta Life Sciences in March 2011 and is responsible for the Company’s legal affairs, including corporate governance, intellectual property, securities, commercial contracts, litigation, compliance and regulatory activities. He also serves as Secretary of the Corporation and to the Board of Directors.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Joseph served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Unica Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise marketing management software and services, which was acquired by IBM in October 2010, and as General Counsel and Secretary of MapInfo Corporation, a global provider of location intelligence solutions, which was acquired by Pitney Bowes in April 2007. Mr. Joseph also practiced law at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (formerly Hale and Dorr LLP) in Boston, MA.
Mr. Joseph holds a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University Chicago.
John Marotta
President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Marotta joined Azenta Life Sciences in September 2024 as President and CEO. He has two decades of experience leading global companies in life sciences, medical devices, and diagnostics.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Marotta served as Executive in Residence of Patient Square Capital, a leading healthcare investment firm. Previously, he served as CEO and President of PHC Holdings Corporation (formerly Panasonic Health Care), a diversified global life sciences, diagnostics, and medical device company focused on precision healthcare, growing global revenues, and leading its IPO from owners KKR Capital. He also held a variety of senior executive roles in leading life sciences companies, including Danaher, Envista Holdings, and Cardinal Health, where he demonstrated consistent achievement in organic revenue growth, operational efficiencies, and significant value-creating transactions. Mr. Marotta began his career in sales leadership roles for therapeutics and medical device offerings.
Mr. Marotta received his BS from the University of Dayton and his MBA from the University of Denver, Daniels School of Business.
John O’Brien
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development
Mr. O’Brien joined Azenta Life Sciences in May 2010 and is responsible for corporate development, which includes acquisitions, divestitures, investments and strategic partnerships.
Prior to joining Azenta, Mr. O’Brien served as Senior Director, Corporate Development at EMC and as Vice President, Technology Investment Banking at Cowen and Company. Mr. O’Brien started his career as an accountant with Palomar Medical Technologies and before that Arthur Andersen.
Mr. O’Brien holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, a MS in Accounting from Northeastern University, and a BA from Colby College.
Michael Paulo
Vice President, Chief Information & Digital Officer
Mr. Paulo joined Azenta Life Sciences in July 2017 as Vice President and Chief Information & Digital Officer. As the Chief Information & Digital Officer Mr. Paulo provides the strategic vision, operational plan, and execution for the technology enablement of the business, enabling the continual positive transformation and progression of the global business.
Mr. Paulo began his career at Automatic Switch Co. in Florham Park New Jersey which was acquired by Emerson Electric Co. based in St. Louis Missouri. Over the course of the next twenty-seven years at Emerson, Mr. Paulo held increasing roles of global responsibility across several key divisions of Emerson, each serving different global industries from healthcare to data centers and telecom: CIO at ASCO Power Technologies, CIO at Energy Systems, CIO at Liebert, and CIO Americas and VP Global Transformation at Emerson’s Network Power business platform which became Vertiv, a $4B annual revenue global business with a footprint in over 147 countries.
Mr. Paulo received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and MBA from Rutgers University. He also holds several certifications spanning the Information Technology & Information Systems profession.
Olga Pirogova
Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer
Mrs. Olga Pirogova joined Azenta Life Sciences in August 2023 as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Ms. Pirogova is responsible for developing and executing Azenta’s human resources strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the company.
Prior to Azenta, Ms. Pirogova served as CHRO at Speedcast, a global satellite communications service provider. Ms. Pirogova also spent 12 years with BD (Becton, Dickinson & Company), a leading global medical technology company, where she worked in various Human Resources leadership roles across Latin America, Europe, and the United States. She previously worked at British Petroleum and Phillip Morris International, where she held roles in a wide range of HR disciplines.
Ms. Pirogova received her master’s degree in human development from Ibero-American University in Mexico City and completed her undergraduate degree at Minsk State Linguistic University in Belarus.
Luc Provost
Vice President & CEO of B Medical Systems
Mr. Provost joined Azenta Life Sciences in October 2022 as Vice President & CEO of B Medical Systems. He holds primary responsibility for leading the B Medical business growth and operations. In his role, Mr. Provost has traveled to 100+ countries and has worked closely with several central governments, ministries of health, international humanitarian and procurement organizations like UNICEF, WHO, etc.
Mr. Provost joined Azenta in October 2022 as part of the acquisition of B Medical. In his 24 years with B Medical, he has played a pivotal role in the company’s revenue growth, geographic expansions and has signed various global commercial agreements for the Company.
Mr. Provost received his decree in Business and Management from the University of Louvain in Belgium and has studied International Marketing at Laval University in Quebec.
David Wang
Senior Vice President & General Manager, Sample Management Solutions
Mr. David Wang joined Azenta Life Sciences in December 2022 and is currently the General Manager of the Sample Management Solutions business, which combines Azenta’s legacy Sample & Repository Solutions (SRS) business with the Products business unit inclusive of Ultracold Store Systems as well as Consumables and Instruments. Prior, David was the General Manager of the Sample & Repository Solutions (SRS) business.
David has held positions with increasing responsibility at the University of Chicago, McKinsey & Company, Johnson & Johnson, Covidien/Medtronic, and PerkinElmer. Most recently David worked as an industry advisor to leading growth/private equity funds and multinationals.
David received his Bachelors in Biological Sciences and MBA in Finance/Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago and his Masters in Bioinformatics at Harvard University.
Rob Woodward
Senior Vice President, Global Quality & Regulatory
Mr. Woodward joined Azenta Life Sciences in November 2009 and was appointed Senior Vice President, Global Quality & Regulatory in November 2019. He is primarily responsible for ensuring Azenta products meet customer expectations while complying with all applicable regulatory and standards requirements. Mr. Woodward is on international assignment based in our Manchester, England site.
Over the past decade at Azenta, Mr. Woodward has held engineering and quality leadership roles with increasing responsibilities. Prior to Azenta, Mr. Woodward worked for United Technologies’ Carrier Corporation where he was the engineering leader for compressor systems technology and components group. He also spent over 16 years at General Electric in various engineering leadership roles.
Mr. Woodward holds BS and MS degrees in Chemistry from Furman University.
Dr. Ginger Zhou
Senior Vice President and General Manager of the GENEWIZ Multiomics and Synthesis Solutions
Dr. Ginger Zhou joined Azenta Life Sciences in November 2018 and was appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager of the GENEWIZ Multiomics and Synthesis Solutions business in November 2022. She holds primary responsibility for leading global GENEWIZ Multiomics and Synthesis Solutions business growth, operations, and development of related products and solutions.
Dr. Zhou joined Azenta in November 2018 as part of the acquisition of GENEWIZ. In her 7 years with GENEWIZ, Dr. Zhou held various leadership positions including VP of Global Next Generation Sequencing.
Dr. Zhou received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from The State University of New York through a joint research program with Yale University. She holds a B.S. in Biochemical Engineering from Tianjin University, China.
